This is simple steps of coloring manga character that I made it 2 days ago. I was inspired by lady warrior from Indonesian old fairy tale named Srikandi. She is a princess but also a warrior with bow and arrow as her main weapon. I use Adobe® Photoshop® CS3 ® software.

1. I do the sketching with pencil

2. Inking and scanning.

3. I clean the scanned material with level tool (image>adjustment>level)

4. To extract the outline, I use magic wand tool and select the white area, invert selection using invert tool (image>adjustment>invert), copy and paste, deselect.

5. Make a new layer, named it base color then I determine which color that I will use (base color, shadow).

6. Using pen tool, select the area that will be filled with color (see Selection Using Pen Tool tutorial). Fill the selection area with Paint Bucket Tool. Do it until all area cover with base color.

7. Made a new layer, named it shadow. Go to Channels. Then I duplicate blue channel.

8. I select the blue channel and using Magic Wand Tool I select the hair area. With selection still on, click RGB channel and start paint the shadow color. Repeat this step to all parts of the character.

Very nice digital painting. I use some slightly different shading methods, but I
might like to play around with how you do it.

Also, I thought you might want to
try running your pencils through a "Trace Bitmap" function in either
Illustrator or Inkscape (an open source, free vector graphics program that does
a lot of what Illustrator does). I use this on my base digital sketches to get a
clean look. It's fun to experiment with. But I like your style.

Thanks Ben,
I never do that method before but I think I'm going to try that.
And you're right; it will be fun
